Democrats have long searched for ways to do away with conservative media outlets. They’ve worked diligently to find ways that quiet voices that contradict their leftist views, and their latest attempt reveled just how far they’re willing to go.
On Wednesday, Democrat Commissioner Ellen Weintraub submitted a proposal that the commission begin a procedure that would prohibit companies with foreign ownership as small as 5 percent “from funding expenditures, independent expenditures, or electioneering communications.”
This move that could effect many news agencies, essentially banning Fox News, the Wall Street Journal, New York Post and New York Times from covering political races or endorsing candidates because they have foreign ownership ranging from 5 percent to 25 percent, according to the Washington Examiner. These agencies would also be prohibited from championing any candidate’s victory or defeat.
Weintraub said in her submission, “Given everything we have learned this year, it blinks reality to suggest that that there is no risk of foreign nationals taking advantage of current loopholes to intercede invisibly in American elections. This is a risk no member of the Federal Election Commission should be willing to tolerate.”

This act is unconstitutional and a clear-cut violation of the First Amendment. A free press is vital to maintaining a free government, and this measure would severely limit it from reporting on elections.
Press coverage is an invaluable right, and it matters not whether any news organization is of domestic or international origin.
Progressives like Weintraub would love to limit the media by any means possible, and the FEC’s support of this kind of censorship makes them politically corrupt. Such a measure would give them complete control over the media, and we cannot allow that to happen.
