BREAKING: US authorities have prepared charges to seek the arrest of @WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, US officials tell CNN.
It has been officially reported that authorities from the United States have prepared charges for the arrest of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.
The investigation into Assange and WikiLeaks goes all the way back to 2010. This was the first year that the site got lots of attention for releasing files from Chelsea Manning.
The reason that it has taken so long to bring charges against Julian Assange and his helpers was because prosecutors did not know what to do about the First Amendment. It has been reported now that they have found a way around that hurdle.
Former President Barack Obama and his administration, including Attorney General Eric Holder did not charge Assange because his findings were released by many big name news outlets as well. Therefore they could not move on with an investigation because of this fact. Now they will be moving forward and fast.
Trump is not messing around with this and Jeff Sessions release a statement saying:
“We are going to step up our effort and already are stepping up our efforts on all leaks. This is a matter that’s gone beyond anything I’m aware of. We have professionals that have been in the security business of the United States for many years that are shocked by the number of leaks and some of them are quite serious. So yes, it is a priority. We’ve already begun to step up our efforts and whenever a case can be made, we will seek to put some people in jail.” It sounds like he has had enough.
“We’ve had no communication with the Department of Justice and they have not indicated to me that they have brought any charges against Mr. Assange,” replied Barry Pollack, Julian Assange’s lawyer.
